Brownsville Girls Empowerment Center and Community Hub
The new Brownsville Girls Empowerment Center and Community Hub will be located at 444 Thomas S. Boyland Street and will include an 18,000 SF community club with free, year-round innovative programs in science, technology, art, dance, digital media and sound, wellness, civic engagement and leadership for young women. The Community Hub section of the facility will include, a new home for Brooklyn Community Board 16, 13,000 SF of rentable office space for community-based organizations and a 1,500 SF community garden that will be maintained by a local organization.

Construction Career & M/WBE Expo
On Thursday, July 13, 2023, we held the first Construction Career & M/WBE Expo for the project. The event was hosted at the New York City Housing Authority Marcus Garvey Community Center in Brooklyn. Hundreds of people registered and attended to learn about the project and how to get involved. Participants connected with: programs that provided training and apprenticeships, contractors with upcoming work in the neighborhood, building trade union representatives, upcoming M/WBE contracting opportunities in Brooklyn, and resume-building assistance.

Participation goals for the Brownsville Girls Empowerment Center and Community Hub project:
- Business Inclusion: 30% MWBE (Inclusive of 7.5% Black and 7.5% Hispanic)
- Workforce Inclusion: 30% of total hours are to be worked by Program Hires*
*Program Hires: Individuals that reside in a zip code where at least 15% of residents are below the federal poverty rate as well as residents of NYCHA housing (regardless of zip codes)
