The Roundup with Scott

I hope everyone is adjusting to the much-needed fall weather that has finally hit Texas. My family and I certainly appreciate the cool down with our Midwest roots, just not looking to see snow any time soon! My wife and I are enjoying our last round of high school sports for our twins that are seniors this year. It is always great to share family news, see below for some other highlights from our team.

Good to see a few project celebrations in the links below, we have some outstanding accomplishments to date that we want to make sure we share and highlight. We are expecting a strong push to the finish on all of our of projects. These celebrations are a great reminder this time of the year to organize and prepare for success on each and every project.

I am sure everyone is excited about the upcoming holidays as we enter Q4. Please make sure our teams are planning shared coverage with our demanding work schedules to ensure we prioritize time with family. I know this is challenging at times, but we have been focused on adjusting our composition of teams to make sure we are covering our challenging jobs with shift work and demanding timelines. We want to hear your feedback if your team needs more support.

Our business development team with leadership support has been working hard on new opportunities in multiple market sectors, with recent wins in Houston and San Antonio. We have secured additional work in Higher Ed, K-12, Public Works, and Corporate markets. We appreciate everyone’s help in wrangling in these wins and delivering expectations with existing clients that has encouraged several to extend and expand our contract work.

We are finalizing our Q3 results and just presented to leadership this week. We are excited to announce our Texas Business Unit is currently exceeding profit and and sales goals for 2023. We continue to work on 2024 strategic planning along with our engagement team planning new and exciting events in the coming months. Please look for upcoming announcements, hope to see you there!

I anticipate that everyone was able to view the most recent corporate Brown Bag where we introduced a few organizational changes. We are excited about the return of Michael Brown to Gilbane; he is already starting to get engaged in Texas leadership calls and we look forward to his formal introduction by the end of the year. Please check below for some of the hard work and events we should be proud of in 2023.

Hope you enjoy this new edition!

Project Updates

Mickey Leland International Terminal

The Mickey Leland International Terminal team is making great progress throughout the airport. The team recently celebrated 1 million safe manhours with a luncheon and raffle on September 13. Team members from Gilbane and Austin, as well as employees from Houston Airports and Fentress Architects, all attended to honor the subcontractors’ hard work.

Other accomplishments are continuing to take place across the site. The western feature wall in the new Terminal D has been installed. The feature wall is a bespoke curtainwall system integrating both metal and glazing panels on the exterior, with solid panels on the interior. Each interior window bay will have integrated LED lighting.  This LED lighting is fully programmable, and can change colors to reflect seasons, holidays, or even mimic the position of the sun; all while simultaneously limiting the strong west light shining in the building.

MLIT PM VISIT !

The team is nearing the installation of the last Passenger Boarding Bridge in Terminal D. The last two months have allowed for a total of 10 bridges to be completely installed throughout Gates D1-D5, with the final going in D6.

In the Relife/Refresh portion of the project, the team has completed the installation of the furniture in 12 gates of the current Terminal D. New flooring and ceiling panels were installed to give a classic and timeless feel. New furniture, including more comfortable leather-like seating, was installed throughout the terminal to provide rest areas for customers with extended layovers. Tables with power outlets and barstools accompany the custom millwork also found throughout Terminal D.

The team is also adding decorative glass murals in Terminal D, with each gate featuring an iconic Houston theme. Each mural is made of three separate panels and was done by a local Houston artist.
