Piedmont ICU Award

Piedmont ICU Award

Gilbane is renovating the hospital’s South Tower, which includes 61 patient rooms, during ongoing operations. The team is working closely with hospital staff and the city of Atlanta to carefully coordinate ongoing shift work to complete the renovations in the most cost effective and fast-track schedule.

This project marks Gilbane’s second win this year for Piedmont Healthcare.

Icon Buckhead Groundbreaking Ceremony

Located in the Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta, the 750,000-square-foot residential tower will offer 365 units ranging from studios to three bedrooms, 36,000 SF of retail/restaurant space, a pool on the eighth floor, indoor and outdoor rooftop amenity spaces, and an 11-level parking garage. Standing 35 stories high it will be the tallest residential building in the neighborhood with direct access to MARTA and blocks from two of the city’s premier shopping malls.

The Sutton Award

Preserve Properties selected Gilbane to provide construction management at risk services for their new $60 million, 488,000 SF residential high-rise tower in the heart of Buckhead—Atlanta’s premier community for an in-town luxury lifestyle. The 21-story building will feature 151 luxury two- and three-bedroom units all with oversized private terraces and views of the Atlanta skyline. Amenities include a resident coffee bar, business center, concierge, private motor court, an elevated pool, fitness center, club room, and guest suite overlooking the elevated amenity terrace with direct views of downtown Atlanta.

This award marks Gilbane’s third multi-family high-rise in Atlanta—giving us three tower cranes simultaneously dotting a metro-centric city’s skyline.

University of South Carolina New School of Law Completion

University of South Carolina New School of Law Completion

Opening in its 150th anniversary year, the new 187,500-square-foot school covers nearly one city block and accommodates 660 students. It houses a ceremonial courtroom, legal clinics, student journals and organization spaces, a two-story library, and a large reading room overlooking a central courtyard. Clad in limestone and brick it has four “wings” located around an interior courtyard that showcases salvaged granite from Columbia’s Civil War era Central Correctional Institution. Featuring the 300-seat Karen J. Williams Courtroom, named for a late USC alumna and the first female chief judge at the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the space will host U.S. Court of Appeals sessions.

Walton High School Completion

Originally built in the 1970s, Walton High School was in need of major upgrades needed by today's technology-rich academic environments. Gilbane built the school’s new classroom building that features state-of-the-art, flexible labs and classrooms. It also includes an administrative wing, kitchen, cafeteria and media center for 2,800 students. Nestled next to the existing school, we built the 300,000-square-foot addition while the campus was fully operational.

Georgia Archives Building Implosion

Georgia Archives Building Implosion

Built in 1965, the 14-story Georgia Archives Building, also nicknamed the “white ice cube” was imploded on March 5, 2017 to make way for the new Georgia Judicial Complex. Media and high-ranking government officials were there on site to watch. Preparation for the big event started around 4am, warning signals sounded around 6:45 and by 7:10am the historic building had been brought down by demolition crews into a cloud of dust and rubble.

State of Georgia Judicial Complex Groundbreaking

Breaking ground on one of Georgia's most distinguished buildings—the Judicial Complex that houses the state's Supreme Court and Court of Appeals—has been the honor of many of our careers. Despite heavy rain on ground breaking day Governor Nathan Deal; Chief Justice P. Harris Hines; and Chief Judge Stephen Louis A. Dillard spoke about what this new facility will mean to them. The new six-story complex will house 24 judge’s chambers for the Justices and Judges, two large courtrooms, and various support space. It is located blocks from the Capitol.

Augusta University College of Science and Math Building and Campus Infrastructure Award

Gilbane was awarded Augusta University’s new College of Science and Math education and research facility. The building contains teaching and research labs, faculty offices, study/collaboration space and classrooms for the biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, and psychology departments. The project is slated to begin construction in 2018.

1000 Park Avenue Topping Out Ceremony

In December Gilbane celebrated 1000 Park Avenue's topping out. The event took place on Level 2 of the parking garage with nearly 500 people in attendance, including Wood Partners (owner) and Reese Vanderbilt & Associates (architect). They were treated to a barbecue lunch and more than 150 raffle prizes donated by Wood Partners and many subcontractors. This project marks the third and final phase of a development Gilbane started more than 10 years ago.

University of South Carolina Chemistry Lab Redevelopment Award

After completing USC’s new School of Law, Gilbane was awarded the renovation of the old law school into a modern classroom, office, and instructional lab facility for the chemistry department. The project is a comprehensive redevelopment of a 198,000 SF, five-story building that includes extensive abatement and a complete replacement of the building’s MEP systems.

Augusta University – Raise the Beam Celebration

Augusta University – Raise the Beam Celebration

In March the Augusta University Georgia Cancer center project held a "Raise the Beam" ceremony, a take on the typical topping out ceremony. The event also helped to raise cancer awareness and the building’s purpose in defeating the disease. Local community members and AU leaders attended to hear the incredible stories of people affected by the Georgia Cancer Center. They signed their names on a ceremonial steel beam that was raised in their honor.
